Shopping Downtown
Although it can get quite chilly, winter is one of the most beautiful times in downtown West Chester. Bundle up, grab a hot drink from one of our many coffee shops, and spend the day window shopping. No matter what you’re looking for, there’s a store for you! Stop into The 5 Senses to browse beautiful hand-made treasures, or Old Soul Décor to find new unique ways to decorate your home. If clothing is what you’re looking for, stop into Green-Eyed Lady or KALY to find your new favorite outfit. When the sun goes down, keep in mind the bustling night life downtown offers as well. Gather your friends and enjoy a night out at Kildares Irish Pub or Barnaby’s. What are you waiting for?!
Visit a Park
Nothing is more peaceful than a walk around the neighborhood after a fresh snowfall. Take advantage of the parks in and around West Chester this winter to help ward off cabin fever. Get out your warmest winter clothes and spend a few hours at Everhart Park on the corner of W Miner Street and S Brandywine Street enjoying a walk, or bring your kids along to play on the playground. Another spot to check out is Marshall Square Park on N Franklin Street which is home to some Victorian and Civil War monuments for the history buffs in your group. West Chester also has many great parks a little farther outside of town. Stroud Preserve and Ridley Creek State Park both offer huge areas of land to hike and explore. Take a trip with your friends and family and see all that Chester County has to offer!
Visit the Library
For those who enjoy reading, cold weather is one of the best excuses to stay inside snuggled up with a hot drink and a great book! If you’re like me though, sometimes sitting in one place for too long can drive you crazy. West Chester has several libraries that offer readers a sanctuary to check out new books as well as discover new cozy reading spots. West Chester Public Library on N Church Street is the perfect spot to hunt down your new favorite book. If you live closer to campus, stop into the Francis Harvey Green Library which houses thousands of books in its six floors. Although on campus, it is open to the public and offers computers and printing services to visitors as well. While you visit our libraries, you can scour out the best places to sit and read outside when the warm weather comes!
Longwood Gardens
Although a little farther outside of West Chester, Longwood Gardens is worth the car ride! Each season a new attraction is set up, which means that if you’ve been there already, you should go again! Be sure to bring along your camera to capture the exhibits that use thousands of flowers and plants to create beautifully mesmerizing patterns and creations.
When the cold feels like it just won’t go away, remember these fun activities that West Chester has to offer! Don’t let yourself get caught up in winter blues, instead come to enjoy the chilly weather and the unique activities that it offers!
