Key Stories Part 3: Pattie Brennan

It might seem surprising that one of America’s top financial advisors thinks about legacy in terms of paying forward and giving back. For Patti Brennan, CFP, President of Key Financial, Inc., investing in people and in the community is not only a particular focus in this season of her life—it’s one of the founding principles that has guided her throughout her career.

In this series, Patti has shared her experiences as a wife, mother, and founder of a financial planning firm as she cared for clients and fought to survive and grow through the financial crisis and beyond (read the first and second stories, too!. This third and final chapter looks at what’s next for Patti and her team at Key Financial, Inc. It’s time now, Patti says, to share wisdom, extend influence, and focus on the future.

Part of Patti’s story comes full circle in her generous support of other female entrepreneurs. “We’re all in this together,” she says, “and it’s important to encourage one another.” Key Financial invests in the youngest generation with its “CEO for the Day” program, where a local 12-year-old gets a taste of the various responsibilities involved with running a company. The company’s college summer interns benefit from a varied and hands-on program designed to help them grow in their understanding of the business and all the people who contribute to its success. The company gives back to the community through many different initiatives, and Patti dedicates time to serving on various boards in the community and in the financial services industry.

Another facet of building legacy is investing in the company as an ongoing enterprise.
“The future is now,” Patti says, and her energy and enthusiasm for fresh ideas spark team members to envision and develop innovative projects. As a result, Key Financial is building software platforms that, for example, extend the degree of personalization the company can offer to each client.

Patti built Key Financial on the cornerstone of client care. Now, she has decades of accumulated wisdom and experience, cutting-edge technology, and an enduring commitment to people and real financial planning. As she develops future advisors of the firm, in some ways the story is only just beginning.
